How viruses steal email addresses?

Generally, when a HTML page is opened the Internet browser saves a copy of the page on the hard drive, in order to get back the data soon if the user wishes to read it again. If the computer is infected with virus, then the virus analyses the saved HTML pages and selects any e-mail addresses it finds.

It also extracts addresses from Outlook contacts and from various other documents stored on hard drive. Some new viruses have the ability to bind common names to standard domains like .aol, .msn, .yahoo and also the common extensions used by many antivirus vendors.

In this way e-mail addresses are guessed and the virus gets transmitted. It also attempts to use e-mail address as the sender's return address to harm others. Some viruses created by hackers not only steals email addresses but also passwords.
If the computer is infected with virus and the user visits an infected page, the virus checks the computer for FTP programs which has username and password and then sends them to hackers server.

Types of Barcode Readers

A barcode reader or barcode scanner is an electronic device used for scanning or reading printed barcodes. It takes the data from the barcode and sends it into a computer system and then information is converted.

Fundamentally, there are five types of barcode readers.
  • A Pen type reader is a simple barcode reader familiar for its durability and low cost and does not involve any moving parts. It reads the barcode by remaining in direct contact with the bar code at a fixed angle.
  • A Slot Scanner is a stationary device and the item with the bar code on it is pulled or dragged by hand through the slot. Slot scanners are mainly used to scan bar codes on identification cards.
  • A CCD Scanner is generally used in retail sales and has a better reading range than the pen reader. A difficulty with the CCD scanner is, it cannot read a bar code that is more than its input.
  • An Image Scanner, also known as Camera reader, uses a small video camera to capture the image of the bar code and then uses modern digital image processing techniques to read or decode the bar code.
  • A Laser Scanner can be hand-held or stationary, and can easily read the bar code from 24 inches away.
  • A laser scanning can finish 500 scans per second and reduces the occurrence of errors.

What is Phishing?

Phishing is the criminally deceitful way of attempting to acquire sensitive information such as usernames, passwords, and credit card details by attempting to pose as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication. Communications claiming to be from popular social web sites, auction sites, IT Administrators, or online payment processors are commonly used to lure the innocent unsuspecting public. It is typically carried out by email or instant messaging and often directs users to enter details at a fake website whose look and feel are similar to the original one. Even if one uses server authentication it needs tremendous skill on the part of the user that the website is authentic or fake. Phishing exploits the vulnerabilities of the current web security technologies.

User training, legislation, public awareness, and technical security measures are the attempts that are used to deal with growing number of phishing reported incidents. A phishing technique was first described in detail in 1987 and the first time the use of the word “phishing” was recorded was in 1996. The term is a variant of fishing, possibly influenced by phreaking and possibly refers to the “baits” used to catch financial information and passwords.

Sometimes, you would catch yourself being a drama queen and your problem wasn't really that bad after all. You could find that you complained less to others about situation.
  • When facing a financial crisis, it's tempting to draw long curtains, shut off the phone, and crawl back into bed to escape from it all. But that doesn’t make you to hide forever. In fact, staying on schedule, job hunting, seeing family and friends, and going to appointments will let you know that the earth has not stopped rotating and you can carry on.

Tips for Quitting Smoking

To Stop Smoking is really a tough job to do. Most of smokers want to quit smoking, but finds it difficult to stop smoking. Let me share some effective tips that work for smokers who want to stop smoking. Who ever may be the smoker; there are two factors that will determine success of quitting it.
  • One must have the desire to give up the habit.
  • One must have the confidence to know that he/she can do it.
These simple and easy steps will help stop smoking and have a healthy life same as that of a non smoker.
  • Think About Quitting – Think about the benefits of quitting smoking and about dangerous diseases like lung cancer, heart strokes, etc caused due to smoking cigarettes. This will tell why it really important to quit smoking.
  • Write a list of the reasons why you want to stop, and keep them with you. Refer to them when tempted to light up. You may wish to read a separate leaflet in this series called 'Smoking - The Facts'. This gives the reasons why smoking is so harmful and lists the benefits of stopping.
  • Set a date for stopping, and stop completely. Some people prefer the idea of cutting down gradually. However, research has shown that if you smoke fewer cigarettes than usual, you are likely to smoke more of each cigarette, and nicotine levels remain nearly the same. Therefore, it is usually best to stop once and for all from a set date.
  • Tell everyone that you are giving up smoking. Friends and family often give support and may help you. Smoking by others in the household makes giving up harder. If appropriate, try to get other household members who smoke, or friends who smoke, to stop smoking at the same time. A 'team' effort may be easier than going it alone.

Learning Basic Tennis Strokes

Learning basic tennis strokes is essential to setting the stage for better play in the future. If you fail to learn these basics early on, you will struggle with overcoming bad playing habits in the years to come. While there are a variety of strokes that new and advanced players can use in tennis, the learner should concentrate on the two main strokes first, before moving on to the more advanced techniques and movements used in more advanced play.

There are two basic tennis strokes that every player must master in order to be competent on the court: the groundstroke and the overhead. These are necessary in order to compete on any level, and should be mastered first. The best way to learn proper stroke technique is to find a trained coach to get you started on a lifelong enjoyment of the game. If this is not an option, these simple tips should help get you started learning the two basic strokes listed above.

When learning the groundstroke, remember these important guidelines:
  • Always begin your groundstroke with a slight, short back swing.
  • Use a shortened grip on the club until mastering this all-important tennis stroke
  • Use a regular type of follow-through. Don't try to be fancy here. The important thing is to learn the stroke first.
  • Try lengthening your back swing at a slow pace.
  • Slide the grip toward the handle.
  • Slide the grip toward the handle.
When practicing overheads, be sure to:
  • Begin your swing at point of contact, slowly presenting a bigger swing can
  • Stand close to the net, followed by slowly moving backward.
  • Begin with an incredibly soft-feed right to the racquet.
  • Practice for short periods of time (less than 30 minutes) in order to not tire your arm and stay fresh and alert. No matter how long your practice session, be sure to have them frequently. Several times a week is most commonly recommended, especially for beginners.
  • Begin advanced drills as soon as you've mastered this basic swing Whatever swing you're working on, always be sure to practice precise technique, featuring the exact form and bodylines needed, and proper movements!

Taking Care of Wooden Furniture

Wooden furniture lends timeless beauty and class to any surroundings. Taking care of wood furniture ensures that it lasts a lifetime. Find out how to preserve your wooden furniture in all its grandeur. Follow these tips to keep your furniture beautiful and class to match your home.

  • Do not place wooden furniture in direct sunlight. Ensure that the furniture is not placed near fireplaces, heaters and radiators.
  • It would be ideal if you can control the humidity in your house with the help of humidifiers and air conditioners, as fluctuations in humidity may expand and contract the wooden furniture.
  • Use coasters and high quality mats to protect your wooden table from spills, stains and damage from hot dishes.
  • Take care that water does not spill from your flower vase on to the wooden surface. In case of any accidental spills, wipe it off immediately with a soft, cotton cloth or super absorbent paper towels.
  • Be careful when you are storing nail polish, polish removers, alcohol, etc on your wooden dressing table.
  • Regular dusting is a must. In fact, dusting is best done using a mildly damp cloth.
  • The type of finishing on the wood and not the wood itself determines the cleansing routine. It is better to check out the type of finish the furniture has before buying it. Finishes may vary from soft to hard to paint.
  • Do not polish more than 3-4 times a year, depending on the type of surface finish of your furniture. Also take care not to use too much polish as it may result in a cloudy film atop the wooden surface.
  • Do not use any multi purpose cleaner available in your neighborhood store. Various types of polish and wax are available for different surfaces.
  • When dusting, take care that all the objects atop the wooden surface are lifted. Do not slide any of the objects as this may scratch the surface.
  • Do not drag wooden furniture, as dragging may weaken the legs; it is safer to lift them.

Disability Charity of The Year - 2007

Alzheimer's Society has been named as disability charity of the year at the 2007 Charity Awards as recognition for the work done on the issue of Dementia.

They made a Dementia Drugs campaign in reaction to the NICE’s recommendation to cease access to Alzheimer’s Drugs on the NHS. As a result of the campaign, NICE revisited its guidance and changed its decision saying those in moderate stages of the disease can have access to the drugs.

The Coronation Street project saw the charity maximize the opportunity presented by key character Mike Baldwin developing dementia. The show attracts an audience of millions, giving an idea of the issue to many who did not understand the condition earlier.

They also submitted Dementia UK report, which was developed to establish perfect evidence, based on the impact of dementia in the UK. The report says that 700,000 people are suffering from dementia in the UK; by 2050 the number of people suffering with Dementia will reach to 1.7 million.

6 Common Mistakes To Avoid For Successful Blogging

Blogging requires lot of time and effort in order to make it successful. However, many bloggers make some mistakes in pursuit of rapid success. These mistakes have potential to destroy the credibility of a blog and make it unsuccessful. In order to avoid it, bloggers need to identify and correct some common mistakes in time.
  1. Non-frequent and erratic postings: The enthusiasm and passion in many bloggers does not remain the same after a few weeks, compared to their initial days of blogging. Blog requires to be updated as frequently to maintain their readers.
  2. Not reviewing or proofreading content before posting: Low quality content diminishes the quality of a blog. Proofread the content before posting. It helps bloggers to avoid grammatical and spelling errors in their blog. Blogs with poor grammar or vocabulary are likely to be considered as incredible by its readers.
  3. Ignoring comments: Blogs are an effective means of interaction. They enable bloggers to interact with their readers in form of comments. This helps bloggers to create a potential relationship with their readers and create a loyal readership for their blog. However, the content in the blog must be interactive and provoke its readers to discuss about it.
  4. Desperate to monetize the blog: Many bloggers start their blog in order to make a considerable monetization from it. However, focusing entirely on monetization may affect the readership and credibility of the blog. Remember, when a blog creates no value, no money you can make out of it.
  5. Poor maintenance: The appearance of the blog is as important as effective content. The blog need not be very flashy or decorative. What matters for the reader of a blog is the easy to navigate, easy to read template and structure. Blogger’s maintenance replicates the effectiveness of the blog in building its credibility.
  6. Irrelevant titles: Many bloggers try to get visitors to their blog by posting with irrelevant and tricky titles. This may work for a short period, but in the long run, it impacts the credibility of the blogger and the blog.
A blogger cannot become successful by not committing mistakes, but learning from them and not repeating them in the future.

How far can Bing fare?

Launched with a big hype, Bing could not reach even to the least expectations of its launchers and its users. It even couldn’t help its home company – Microsoft from declining in search share. If this is the position even in its initial stage of launching, what would be the future of this search engine - with a faddy name?

Nielsen released new stats on Bing and its rival search engines. Google leading all the way with 63.2% search engine share, it has also reported a considerable YOY increase in searches. Nielsen’s report also says that all the major search engines, except Microsoft, showed a YOY increase in searches.

However, Bing seems to do well with UK searchers. According to Hitwise, the average visit time to this search engine has increased to eight and half minutes. This is half the time spent by then on Google. So, people are using it a bit seriously rather than just checking it out.

Bing is no where near to compete with the mighty Google. But I believe it has some potential to take over Yahoo! – the second biggest search engine.

Budget Not Likely To Aid Confident First-Home Buyers

The much-elated first-home buyers in Australia are to turn disappointed with the halt plans of their Prime Minister. The boost aided by the Government for the first homebuyers, is likely to end up by June 30th.

With the announcement made by the Kevin Rudd, the Prime Minister of Australia, that all good things will “come to an end,” analysts already estimated that this would be the end of the boost of the housing industry.

When we look at the conditions of the housing sector all over the world, it is bad and gloomy in many places compared with the situation in Australia. The governments of the alleged nations have no opportunity to boost the sector from at least the losses. In addition, it surprises me that the Australian government is readily confining its opportunity for a little period.

The $10.4 billion stimulus package of Australian government was a big hit with the first-home buyers who wanted to escape the rental-cycle.

Social networking sites are designed with a concept of getting as many users as possible. These kinds of sites always have more security flaws compared to other normal sites, thus making it easier for hackers to target.

Italy’s Earthquake Leaves People In Distress

The terrible earthquake which hit Italy in the morning of April 6th left many people in distress. The death toll according to sources was 27 and it is likely to increase later.

The earthquake, with a potential of 6.3 in magnitude, hit the central Italy at around 3.30 a.m. (8:30 p.m. ET). The US geological survey had found the epicenter to be at 60 miles away from Rome in the mountainous Abruzzo region - 6.2 miles beneath the ground.

Since, there are many buildings in Italy, which are very old – some even of centuries age – the damage is likely to be big. Some say that the quake must have damaged around 10,000 and 15,000 buildings. These buildings include churches, government offices, historic monuments and obviously a big number of residential houses. Thus, many people have lost their homes to the earthquake, which they lived in a few moments ago.

Putin Paints 37 M Rubles for Charity

No matter how dire your painting is, the best way to sell it for good amount is by becoming a celebrity. “How do you spend that amount” issue comes next.

Vladimar Putin, the former President and present Prime Minister of Russia has painted a good painting and put into the auction.

Let’s look at the painting first. It features a window. Behind the window you can view the frost. The window is framed with curtains on three sides, and the Russian letter U. It also shows that Putin is not as good at painting as he is at martial arts.

So, it is this painting that fetched a staggering 37 million Rubles ($1.14 million). This amount is 10 times the officially conveyed wealth of Putin, i.e.3.7 million rubles. This amount will be given to Charity to restore two hospitals and a church in Putin’s hometown.

If you think you missed the opportunity to buy his painting, don’t worry. He has 30 pictures more.

Taxpayers Don't Claim Tax Relief worth $280m

The charity and fund raising has declined with the economic turmoil.

Amid such gloomy environment, I don’t understand how to respond to this news which says that people don’t know or not interested in claiming tax relieves for their charity. According to a study, the higher rate taxpayers, who can claim back the extra 20 percent, are not doing that. Thus, they are leaving a hefty amount of $280 millions (£200 m) unclaimed.

It is the complex process of Self-assessment forms and all that stuff keeping them away from claiming back. So it is high time for the charities to start awareness programs regarding this tax claiming process so that they can drive themselves out of tough times easily.

Not only high tax payers, health professionals like Nurses, doctors and all other professionals who come under health sector are eligible to claim tax relieves on their expenses related to their work.

Christmas Appeals Show Mixed Results

Recession hits charities very hard. They showed mixed results in terms of funds rising.

According to a survey, it was found that 34 percent of the charities raised less funds compared to that of the funds raised in previous year.

It also said that 29 percent of them could raise the same amount of funds as they did the previous year. The other 29 percent were successful in raising more funds than that of the funds raised the previous year.

This is not as bad as what is going on with many of the sectors during recent times.

In another survey, it was said that younger people are trying to increase their donations while older ones are trying to cut theirs.

The CEO of the loF, a charity organization, said that the overall results are positive. The success behind a good fund rising will depend on the approach of the charities towards people.

The example of the BBC raising one million pounds in donations, serves as the best example for this.

Tech Industry’s Dealing with the Ailing Economy

What remains the major challenge now for the tech industry is marketing their products amid the severe economic turmoil.

The industry seemed to resist the economic slowdown, but finally had to succumb to it.

People were crazy after buying hi-tech gadgets till they realized in what condition they are. Now they have to deal with pending bills, finding new jobs (or at least source for income), and avoid foreclosure.

While videogames, market seems to do well, what about other industries?

I am not ready to buy even a hundred dollars for a new laptop. It doesn’t make sense if I bought it with my pending credit card bill.

The situation is similar with many people.

The major step the tech companies took to cope up with the situation is lay-offing employees as many as they can. And the rest we know.

They have to come up with ideas like “loan for buying a digital camera”.

A Boring Journey: From Geek to Nerd

In my odd life, I come across many odd people. Some meet me, some don’t. Some make good friends, some don’t. It all depends upon the environment.

And one day I came across a guy was very desperate about taking a nick name for him. “Some call me Nerd and some call me Geek”, he said,” though both sound good, I want to take only one of them”

It’s true; many people get confused with these two teaser-words. But Geek has rather negative image compared to Nerd. So I said to take Nerd.

But all that I didn’t understand was how would he manage to get that image. If I were him I could have asked, begged each and every person to call me Nerd. That is the only plan I could think of.

But this fellow had a Plan-B. He started wearing T-Shirts which were labeled “I am Nerd”.

And you know what? People started to call him Dunce.

The big moral of this small story is that don’t mess up with what you are not good at.

Why Should We Thank?

If you think yourself to be a well morale person with good manners and knowledge of social behavior, then you must be using these three magical words at least once a day. “Thank you”, “Sorry” and “Please”.

Now let’s talk about Thanks that most people use in a very formal way. The negative thing about formal thanks is that the person is not really so thankful to you. He just spells it.

What is the purpose of saying thanks? Why do people say thanks?

Your thanks is a recognition of some act by the person; he doesn’t have to do it with so much effort but still he does it. Your thanks either encourages to continue doing such a good job or gives a feeling that he doesn’t have to regret for wasting his time on that work (you know, time is so precious these days).

Whenever you thank God every day, it means,” Dear God! You don’t have to regret for sending me to earth. Good job and please continue sending people like me”
