Know About Age Discrimination in Employment

Discrimination of employees at workplaces against age, gender, disability, race, and religion are common. Many people face problems related to the discrimination. Age discrimination is very commonly seen at companies.

When the wage rate of an employee is reduced on the basis of age, it can be claimed as age discrimination. Age discrimination also pertains when the person is classified or segregated by the employer to deprive of the employment opportunities. Aged people are set apart from hiring or promotions though they have qualified skills for the position. A change in job assignment may also be the factor to be considered in age discrimination.

The Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA) protects the individuals above 40 years of age from employment discrimination based on age in the United States. Babysitter is a person, who provides care for children in the absence of parents. Parents appoint them according to requirement. They work on short term basis. Generally, their job description is related to child-care. There are few qualities of a babysitter, such as:

What is External Recruitment

External recruitment is recruiting people from outside the business or organization. The selecting candidates may be workers from another firm or organization, freshers who have never worked before, or people who are unemployed. Most businesses hire for job by external recruitment objectively and frequently. These businesses are growing firms and progress in industries with high staff turnover.

Methods of external recruitment for a job may be personal recommendation, job centers, private employment agencies, executive employment agencies, careers advisers or by advertisements. Procedure for external recruitment is publishing advertisement through which readers or candidates come to know about socio-economic group, sex, age, etc that are required for job, so that only eligible candidates can apply. Then application form has to be designed which should be sent to people who will apply for the post. Mostly personnel departments design a standard application form that is suitable for all vacancies.

After receiving all the completed application forms, members of the personnel department examine them to find the most suitable candidates and shortlist candidates for interview. After this, interview is conducted which is usually the main feature of the job selection process. This is the slowest means of recruitment.

Before the interview process the recruiter should do some tasks, for making the right hire.
  • The job requirements: Before going to the interview process, the recruiter must have clear idea about, what type of candidate is going to be fit in to the organization. And what types of skills are required for the vacant position in the organization.
  • The resumes: Selecting the resumes based on job based skills is important.
  • The interview time: After selecting the resumes, the next step would be to make calls to an individual and set up an interview time.
  • Candidate list: It is better to make a list of candidates, who are going to attending the interview.
  • Confirm the timings: Once the candidate list is prepared, it is better to confirm the timings with the candidates who are appearing for the interview. Once the mutual time is decided, confirms the time through the mail.
After completion of these tasks, the next process is the job interview and job interview questions.
