Alcohol – More Harmful than Cocaine and Heroin

Many people who consume alcohol don't know that, they are consuming a harmful drug. They feel that consuming illegal drugs is a big mistake when compared to alcohol consumption. They even look at the drug abusers like criminals. They only think that using of illegal drugs is a crime. Of course, they are true. But they have to realize the fact that bad effects caused by Alcohol are proven to be more dangerous when compared to illegal drugs.

This news might be hard to believe, but, according to the recent study conducted by Independent Scientific Committee on Drugs(ISCD), alcohol stood at the top of the list scoring higher score in harmful effects than Cocaine and Heroin. The study used a system called multicriteria decision analysis to analyze damage caused by various drugs. Alcohol is proved to be three times more harmful than cocaine and eight times more harmful than Ecstasy, a popular club drug.

These reports show that Alcohol and tobacco stood in the top place of creating harm. From this anybody can infer that legal drugs are causing more harm than illegal drugs. It was also proven that nine of the criteria, evaluated specific harm to the drug users, while seven criteria looked at the harm caused to others. So, alcohol consumption not only creates problem to the one who consumes it but also to the people in the society.

The harm cause by illegal drugs to other people who don't use them is more when compared to harm caused to other people from alcoholic abusers. Still, there exists a need to create awareness among the adverse affects of alcohol, and to encourage them to give away the habit.
