Application Software enhances the basic functions of computer and helps the user to solve problems for a specific input and generates an output.
Applications provide high level service for users’ access. It provides a means to access the capabilities of Internet, for example, sending and receiving e-mails, browsing information among voluminous amount of data from Internet. Application determines the format of the displayed information and provides mechanism to access the information. Applications define symbolic names for the computer and most Internet users’ access remote computers by this name.
Client- server architecture for computer
Client and server are two different applications. One application called client, initiates a request and establishes a connection with the other application called server, which waits for a request by the client and establishes communication with client.
The client and server use a transport protocol to communicate and the transport layer protocol uses lower layer protocols. The server or client directly interact with the transport layer protocol and processes the request sent by the client and generates response.
A single computer system can handle multiple clients and servers at a time if it has sufficient hardware resources and an operating system that allows multiple application programs.
