Roles of Facility Managers for Managing Activities

Facility management is an important sector that is involved in the co ordination of all business support activities. The facility management operators rely on various tools and equipment for business support activities that require the need for innovation and care in a wide range of facilities provided in commercial buildings such as hospitals, hotels, shopping malls, educational institutions, residential complexes, etc.

Facility manager is a person who plays an important role in managing facilities. He is also considered as a care taker of different premises around the environment in which people normally live or an infrastructure that provides a good quality of the facilities for the people to live in.

The facility management company provides support functions that generates a quality service but cuts down the costs drastically. Facility managers have to operate at two levels – strategic, tactical and operational levels. In the first level, facility managers must inform their owners about the impact of their decisions regarding the provision of space and services. In the next level, facility manager's role is to provide and ensure proper operations of a building that creates an optimal, safe and cost effective environment in all aspects of a building. This is accomplished by managing and following some activities that are to be done by facility managers.

Their functions include providing health and safety services at local, state and national buildings, fire safety, housekeeping, gardening, cleaning, landscaping, security, facade maintenance, waste management and pest control. They are also supposed to care of maintaining the power generation and air conditioning equipment, periodic testing and inspections of electrical portable equipment, work equipment and lift equipment, providing security and hospitality services within the buildings.

The facility mangers provide support and improve the effectiveness of the primary activities of a building by maintaining and developing the activities in various premises.
